Square Dance Checkers 1.0.4

This application presents a straightforward digital simulation of virtual Square Dance Checkers, occasionally referred to as Dolls. The interface allows users to manipulate the checkers through multi-touch gestures, enabling movement and rotation via simple interactions such as double-taps.

Traditionally, Square Dance Checkers are small pieces made of plastic or metal, used on tabletops to visually delineate each dancer's position and orientation within a square formation during calls, primarily in Western Square Dancing. They serve as valuable tools for demonstrating and planning dance formations and movements.

While preparing for a square dance callers' school later in the day, I discovered that my physical sets of checkers had been inadvertently scattered by household cats. After some searching, I retrieved a single checker with a #4/corner doll hiding behind a cluttered area—possibly indicating the rest had wandered off to another location.

In response, I developed this iPad checker emulator to fulfill my immediate need for a visual aid. Several fellow students expressed interest in a copy, prompting me to share this free application.

This tool is intentionally minimalistic; it does not include predefined dance calls, databases, animations, automation features, or physical enhancements like magnets. It provides only basic functionality: draggable checkers that can be moved manually and rotated with intuitive gestures.

• Double-tap on a checker to rotate it 90 degrees clockwise (to the dancer’s right).
• Press and hold the CCW button to rotate the entire formation counter-clockwise by 90 degrees; tapping the button again rotates only the last moved checker.
